Return to Service Ceremony

A ceremony to welcome the USS GEORGIA Return to Service as a Guided Missile Submarine (SSGN), following her conversion from a Ballistic Missile Submarine (SSBN), was held aboard Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay on Friday, March 28, 2008. Several thousand people - including national, state and local dignitaries - were on hand for this unique and memorable ceremony welcoming the USS GEORGIA and her crew to her new home in Camden County, Georgia.

Student Art Competition

Governor Sonny Perdue and the USS Georgia Return to Service Committee were sponsors of “Bringing the USS Georgia Home: Celebrating Georgia’s Ambassadors for Peace” - a statewide student art competition for Georgia art students of every age. Camden County High School student Nicole Wasson's entry was chosen as the "Captain's Choice" grand prize winner.

Nicole's color pencil drawing incorporates the submarine, state seal, state bird, state flower and a Georgia peach.
