Welcome to the USS GEORGIA (SSGN 729) Return to Service web site
sponsored by the Camden - Kings Bay Council of the Navy League of
the U.S., The Camden Partnership, the Camden County Chamber of
Commerce, and the Naval Submarine League.
A ceremony to welcome the USS GEORGIA Return to Service as a Guided
Missile Submarine (SSGN), following her conversion from a Ballistic
Missile Submarine (SSBN), was held aboard Naval Submarine Base Kings
Bay on Friday, March 28, 2008. Several thousand people - including
national, state and local dignitaries - were on hand for this unique
and memorable ceremony welcoming the USS GEORGIA and her crew to her
new home in Camden County, Georgia.
This site honors the history of
the USS GEORGIA, commemorates its Return to Service and the many
activities leading up to
the ceremony, and
recognizes the people most
responsible for returning the USS GEORGIA (SSGN 729) to its rightful
home.
